Saint-Étienne is a city in the central eastern part of France, 60 km (40 miles) southwest of Lyon. Located in the Rhône-Alpes région, Saint-Étienne is the préfecture (capital) of the Loire département. It is situated in the Massif Central.
2nd largest urban area of Rhone-Alps, Saint-Etienne has distinguished itself by its enterprising passion for nature, for art which makes it a design metropolis. Awarded Art & History City, Saint-Etienne is also known for its know-how and its hospitality spirit.
St Etienne Property
At present 3 of Europe’s largest companies have their European headquarters in St Etienne, Casino, Ikea and Weiss provide large employment and are spearheading a movement to bring more top specification companies to the area. In the vicinity of this new development will be a business park over 30 hectares creating 114,000 jobs. The St Roch area (adjacent to this residential area) will have over 51 million euros spent on it (both in businesses, housing and green space renewal) beginning in 2009. L’Express newspaper recommends this locale as one of the key investment areas in the region.
St Etienne’s overall capital appreciation had risen 19.1% from 1st October 2005 – 30th September 2006, but incredibly has risen 94.8% in last 6 years, a rise which is akin to cities like London. This is an indication of the rapid growth of the city and a strong push on a local property level, long before foreign investors have begun to buy. Prices have now started to level out with a more steady rise of 6 – 7% in the last 12 months, but this by no means indicates a reversal or down turn.
