The Location
To make a long story short... In 1903 above the village of Odeillo there existed only two houses belonging to the 'la chappelle Ermitage'. In the following years several other abodes were built, but it is with the construction of the Grand HĂ´tel that Font Romeu became a village.
After a golden age when the village flourished the two world wars marked a progressive decline for the station. It was not until the late 1950's that the village ascended into one of the most popular winter sports stations in the Pyrenees - the Font Romeu taht we know today!
There is a rich heritage in Font-Romeu, but the surrounding countryside is equally as rich meriting a few days discovery. Roman architecture is omni-present in the majority of neighbouring villages.
